Your car, truck, or C/SUV is filled with different fluids to help it run efficiently and keep you safe. These fluids need to be changed at different intervals, and the fluids come in different colors to help you identify them. Accurate Auto Center is going to list the different colors of automotive fluids below for your information. If you have fluid spots or puddles on your garage floor, we can find the leak and fix it.
Blue
If the fluid on the garage floor is blue, your car, truck, or utility vehicle is leaking windshield washing solution. The color of the cleaner is the same color as window cleaner. It is also possible that your vehicle is leaking antifreeze/coolant, but blue is an unusual color for this automotive fluid.
Brown
You don’t need us to tell you that your motor oil is brown. You may not realize, however, that your brake fluid is also brown. Another brown fluid that is found in automobiles is differential oil. Finally, if your transmission fluid is too old, it will be brown to dark brown or black.
Clear
There isn’t any clear fluid in your automobile. Gasoline and diesel fuel are almost clear, but they have a slight tint to them. This being said, they may look clear if they are dripping onto your garage floor, so smell the clear liquid to make sure it doesn’t smell like fuel. Water is clear, and it drifts out of your tailpipe and from the air conditioning system.
Green
Green is a common color of antifreeze/coolant. In most cases, the green hue will have a neon tint to it. It may also have a yellow tint to it. We don’t recommend that you drive your automobile if it is leaking coolant. Running the engine will cause it to overheat.
Orange
Another antifreeze/coolant color is orange. The coolant may come in this color originally or it may turn or arrange because a corroded radiator is filling it with rust.
Red
As you will see as you keep reading, antifreeze/coolant comes in many colors, including red. The fluid in your transmission is also red. Power steering fluid is red, and certain brands of brake fluid are red.
Yellow
One final color that coolant comes in is yellow. As with the green coolant, the yellow coolant is generally neon yellow. It may also have a green tint to it.
