Six Signs it’s Time for Accurate Auto Center to Replace Your Clutch

The lifespan of a clutch varies depending on the quality of the factory-installed clutch and how you drive your automobile. Accurate Auto Center is going to list six signs below that indicate it’s time for a new clutch. Don’t worry. We can install one for you.

1. Burning Odors Coming From the Clutch

If you smell hot odors wafting out of the clutch, the clutch is slipping. What this means is that the clutch can no longer stay engaged even though you have depressed it. Unfortunately, the only way to resolve this issue is to replace the clutch or rebuild it if the internal damage isn’t severe. A slipping clutch will make it difficult for you to shift gears.

2. Changes in the Catch Point Position

You may also notice changes in the catch point position of your clutch if it is going bad. Usually, the change is that the catch point gets higher than where it used to be. This change may be subtle at first, only to get worse as the clutch continues to wear down.

3. Hesitation When You Accelerate

If your vehicle fails to accelerate after each gear shift, this is a sign that the clutch was not able to transfer the power to the transmission so it could move the drivetrain. This is the clutch’s primary job. It takes the power away from the engine and moves it to the transmission.

4. Problems With the Gear Shifts

Naturally, if there is no power in the transmission, it will be difficult to shift your vehicle’s gears. You may find that your automobile can no longer go into gear or shift through the gear cycle if the clutch is bad. Replacing the clutch generally resolves this problem.

5. Strange Sensations Under Your Foot

Aside from changes in the catch point, you may also feel strange sensations underneath your foot when you depress the clutch. Specifically, the clutch may feel spongy or soft. A bad clutch may also sink all the way to the floor without catching.

6. Strange Transmission Noises

Finally, a strong sign that the clutch is going bad is grinding noises from the transmission. You may also hear squealing or clunking. As an aside, the clutch itself may also start to make a squeaking noise when you use it.
