Problems Caused By a Faulty Fuel Pump

Accurate Auto Center can help if your car’s fuel pump is going bad. This can happen after the pump has worked for 100,000 miles. Below, we are going to lay out the different problems that are caused by a faulty fuel pump. Bring your vehicle to our shop as soon as possible for a new pump.

Rotten Performance

There’s no way around it. Your vehicle’s performance will be rotten if the fuel pump is going bad. The engine may sputter or surge depending on how much fuel is making its way into the combustion chamber. The former means very little fuel is in the chamber. The latter means too much fuel is in the chamber. In addition, the engine will lose power when it is under stress.

Poor Fuel Efficiency

Unfortunately, this is going to affect how efficient your engine runs, and, as such, your fuel efficiency. When the fuel pump is dying, you will notice a reduction in the fuel efficiency because the engine uses more fuel when it struggles or surges.

A Hot Engine

Combine the above with a hot engine, and you likely have a malfunctioning fuel pump. The reason why the engine gets too hot is that the fuel pump motor gets too hot. Consequently, the heat transfers from the motor to the engine and overheats your automobile.

Poor Fuel Pressure

Another sign that you need a new fuel pump is poor fuel pressure. In fact, one of the things that we can do to diagnose the problem is to test your fuel pressure to see if it is below normal. If it is, the pump is malfunctioning and unable to produce enough fuel pressure in the engine.

Whining Fuel Tank

The pump has been known to make noises when it struggles. Specifically, it may sound as if your fuel tank is whining. Actually, it’s the fuel pump inside of the tank that is whining. If you bring your vehicle to our shop when you first hear the sound, we can replace the fuel pump before it causes additional problems.

A Dead Engine

One such problem is a dead engine. You don’t need us to tell you that your engine will not start if it doesn’t have any fuel in it. This can happen if the fuel pump stops working. No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to get the engine to fire up.
